Academic Writing

Are you writing your seminar paper, final thesis (bachelor's/master's thesis, Zulassungsarbeit) or dissertation?

We support you in line with the principle of “helping people to help themselves”, offering tips and insights on the following topics regarding German academic writing:

• Project and time management (project planning, procrastination, etc.)
• Getting started with the writing process (identifying a topic, developing a research question, etc.)
• Structuring content or ideas (outlining, developing arguments, etc.)
• Overcoming writer’s block
• Strategies for revising text
• Reflective use of (generative) AI in the writing process

The Writing Centre of the SZ offers individual counselling (in English) for English academic writing for master's and doctoral students. You may find more information here.

The writing consultation service of the university library does not advise on:

• reference management, citation styles and correct citation
• compliance with formal requirements
• all content-related aspects of the thesis, orthographic or grammatical issues
• writing in a foreign language, including German as a foreign language.

The writing consultation is not an editing, proofreading or ghostwriting service and does not offer any assessment of the possible grading of your text. The responsibility for your text/your work is yours.

Consultancy appointments can be booked by members of the University of Bamberg. Please understand that only one appointment can be booked per person.
