Academic Writing

Are you writing your seminar paper, bachelor's/master's thesis or dissertation?

We support you according to the principles of „helping people to help themselves“ in the following areas:

• questions about planning, organising and structuring your German academic writing
• tips and impulses for starting the writing process, overcoming writer's block or revising your thesis.

The Writing Centre of the SZ offers individual counselling (in English) for English academic writing for master's and doctoral students. You may find more information here.

The writing consultation service of the university library does not advise on:

• reference management, citation styles and correct citation
• compliance with formal requirements
• all content-related aspects of the thesis, orthographic or grammatical issues
• writing in a foreign language, including German as a foreign language.

The writing consultation is not an editing, proofreading or ghostwriting service.

Consultancy appointments can be booked by members of the University of Bamberg. Please understand that only one appointment can be booked per person.

Please note:
Ms Plechinger is currently completing further training as a writing consultant at the Akademie für wissenschaftliche Weiterbildung Freiburg im Breisgau. The consultation appointments in the summer semester 2024 are part of her practical training.

Please answer the following questions when booking your appointment:

1. Which writing project are you currently working on? (Term paper, bachelor's thesis etc.)
2. What question do you have/what topic would you like advice on? (e.g. finding a topic, writing a draft etc.)

We are also happy to offer you advice by telephone or via Microsoft Teams.
